#195 Wings for Ted

2009.07.14

[Nemoptera bipennis - Thread lacewing. El Tomillar, El Escorial - Madrid]

This is one of the fairies that live in the forest.
It's not a butterfly, neither a dragonfly.
It's scientific name Nemoptera means veined wing.
When she flies, she makes strange movements with their main wings fluttering and soaring after, using the back wings as rudders.

I want to dedicate these photos to my friend Ted.
His curiosity and his good intentions, have achieve that today one of my photos in on FP.
I feel very happy and grateful, Ted. You said that this is an opportunity for my message reaches farther and I agree with that. Maybe it's not my best shot, but my best post. And I'm sure they took some time to decide which one was the best.
I want the fairy to give you her ethereal wings, so your imagination will run to the places you never dreamed.
Thanks, Ted.
:)

onlyricky I love that Bug!!!
I've never seen it before!:D
That's cool!I loved its wings! ^_^
I firstly would say that its head was very similar to the dragonfly!
:P

By the way, I think the only bugs that love me are hoverflies, beetles and some butterflies ;P
Bees hate me and Always want to sting me!
Also Wasps are cute and they never annoy me! I love when they sting me :) Long time I'm not sting T_T

Anyway

eljapa Been browsing back at your blog and you do an amazing job. I think you must be a butterfly/dragonfly or what ever whisperer to get these beautiful insects so close. they even sit on you (or your husband). Its just great to watch all the different kinds of insect you make pictures of. compliments once again.
