[Actias isabellae - Spanish Moon Moth (caterpillar). Guadarrama Mountains, Rascafria - Madrid]

I'm still amazed.
That's what happened:
We walked through the forest taking pictures of butterflies. Then my husband saw a lizard and we started to photograph him. But wait, what was he trying to do? He was hunting some bug. OMG!! What a bug!!
I went closer - the lizard ran away. And there she was: the largest caterpillar I have ever seen.
The lizard was about to eating her, although she tried to defend herself. I don't often take part of things that occur in nature, that would be wrong. But this time I acted instinctively... I just wanted to know what the hell the lizard was trying to eat!
What is fascinating is that, accidentally, I saved from certain death to a beautiful caterpillar. And this species, which live only on some sites in Spain, is in grave danger of extinction.
Now my greatest wish is find the moth some day.

I want to dedicate this post to my friend Ricky.
^_^

I'm still shocked!!
the Caterpillar is even more beautiful in the pictures than the google ones!

And you're super lucky! just think:
* Imagine that you just thought ''oh! it is just a lizard eating'' and dont mind about it! You'd never get to know this caterpillar!

And you save the caterpillar, that means you've saved the beautiful moth!
Take this like a signal! Maybe it will be soon the day you'll see the moth! you already saw the caterpillar, soon you'll see the moth! this always happen to me!
its a signal i'm sure!
I'm sure the lizard would have kill the caterpillar! it has starving face!:D

I also dont like to interfer in the nature! Because we should never do thaT! what happens in the nature is Sacred! all has to happen!

I'm sure you'll find the moth! I've a feeling about it :)
And I want also to see those shots :D I'm sure you'll find! once you know there is the caterpillar nearby, there must mean there are moths close!^_^
Also the caterpillar seems to like pinus tree, so check close! ;)

tedbarlow That poor lizard!!
It hadn't eaten for days and finally it found its meal to keep it alive and then came a giant girl with a big eye and the lizard thought "Arrghhhh, some strange creature and I haven't got my camera with me!!" and so it ran away and was all depressed and sad...
ONLY JOKING...fantastic pictures Ruth, well done for rescuing the caterpillar :-)

firehorsecri Fantastic shot :-) The lizard will find something else to eat. While the caterpillar is ALIVE and KICKING with all those legs he has :-)
Spanish Moon moth? Well, it could be very nice if it is out on July 20 the day when the humans walked on the Moon in 1969 ;-)
