The city of Grenoble is nestled amongst the mountain ranges of the Chartreuse, Vercors and the Alps.
The limestone plateau of the Vercors lies to the south west of Grenoble. The main ski station, Lans-en-Vercors, is at 25km from the city. There are several routes going into the mountain range through the suburb St Nizier.
The Vercors is a superb place for cycling for many reasons. The scenery of the Alpine summits and the peaks of Chartreuse is incredible, the roads are quiet, and the gradients are often more gradual than in the high Alps.
